Over the years, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has been the leading institution for technological advancements in the country, mainly owing to the prowess of their Engineering faculty.
Adding to the several innovative technologies developed on campus, they want to do more more than just looking at people in the market. They are giving back to the Senior High Schools.
The College of Engineering is currently organizing a fully funded one week innovation and engineering camp for brilliant SHS students from selected schools in Kumasi.
According to opening speech of the Provost of the College; Professor Adom Asamoah, ” Although no nation in the world has built a thriving economy, and provides better quality of life for its people with such economy, stories abound of successful economies built solely on the creativity, innovation and invention of its people albeit without the many natural resources that abound in Africa”.
They are tutored by leading lecturers and continuing students who serve as mentors. They are taken through problem solving and entrepreneurship. Leadership is not left out of the picture as it is necessary to groom them to be leaders in their respective schools. Also taught were principles of engineering.
Some projects undertaken and products made by students and mentors alike were displayed, explained and looked into.
The university plans on making this camp an annual event where Senior High School students are groomed with the hopes and assurance that they become engineers who redefine technology in Ghana, Africa and beyond.
